Jamma Magazine Q&A
Slingo Fowl Play has become one of Gaming Realms’ standout titles in Italy, with its performance now prompting a rare sequel. With Slingo Fowl Play Egg Hunt set for its Italian release on 22 September following an exclusive launch with Flutter, Gaming Realms’ Mariachiara Lagravinese, Regional Account Manager, explains what the supplier learned from the original and how those insights are shaping its next steps in the Italian market.
The original Slingo Fowl Play proved popular with Italian players following its release. What convinced Gaming Realms that the game deserved a sequel?
The performance of Slingo Fowl Play gave us a very clear case. We saw solid KPIs across player retention, wagering and engagement, but what was particularly encouraging was how quickly Italian players became familiar with the game and its different bonus features.
Whenever we introduce Slingo to a new market, there is an education piece around the format and what makes it different. Slingo Fowl Play helped us do that in Italy because the theme and storyline made the various mechanics and bonuses easy to understand.
Slingo Fowl Play performed well internationally too, which gave us further confidence in the concept. We have produced sequels to our own games before, but Slingo Fowl Play Egg Hunt is our first based on third-party IP, so reaching that point says a lot about the success of the original.
Where do localised titles fit into Gaming Realms’ wider product strategy, and what do you look for when identifying IP for individual markets?
Localisation is an important part of our strategy, and we are always searching for IP with particular relevance to individual territories.
The challenge is finding properties that also translate naturally into Slingo, and there aren’t necessarily that many of them. Slingo Fowl Play is a good example of getting that balance right: it had clear relevance in Italy, while the game proved capable of travelling beyond its original target audience. Finding an IP that can achieve both is a real advantage.
Player data and operator feedback often shape how games evolve after launch. Looking back at Slingo Fowl Play, were there any insights that directly influenced the development of Slingo Fowl Play Egg Hunt?
We look closely at game analytics to understand how players interact with a title and which elements generate the strongest response. That gave us something tangible to build on when developing Slingo Fowl Play Egg Hunt.
One of the clearest findings from Slingo Fowl Play was how much players enjoyed the chicken-picking feature. We have incorporated that into the sequel and developed the new egg hunt storyline around it.
Beyond retaining popular elements from the original, how have you approached making Slingo Fowl Play Egg Hunt a distinct game in its own right, and what can a sequel bring to an established title?
We already had a maths model that we knew worked, so we considered how the storyline could take Slingo Fowl Play Egg Hunt somewhere new. The progression through the game ties into the egg hunt theme, while keeping the core elements that made the first title successful.
An interesting aspect of sequels is the effect they can have on the first game. We have seen that a new release can bring players back to its predecessor. We recently saw this with Slingo Day of the Dab, where the launch of the follow-up also led to an increase in play on the original.
Slingo Fowl Play is still performing very well in Italy and elsewhere, so the impact of Slingo Fowl Play Egg Hunt won’t necessarily be viewed in isolation.
Looking ahead, what are Gaming Realms’ priorities for the Italian market following the launch of Slingo Fowl Play Egg Hunt?
One priority is identifying the next IP that can meet the needs of Italian players. A lot of that intelligence comes from listening to our operator partners, analysing player behaviour and following the trends we see locally.
Those insights help us understand where the next opportunity might come from and what will resonate with the Italian audience.
